Hello,
As the pastor, I treat church like a close family. We're informal at River's Edge - so that you can be yourself and fit in.
My greatest joy in ministry is seeing people connect with God. As a community we have discovered help and hope through knowing God, worshiping Him, growing in character, and helping others however we can.
My vision for River' Edge is to be a church that's like a spiritual
river - a people that have a fresh flow of God's water of life. A relationship with God fills us up with love - we are His creation, His family. Out of that filled life, we over flow love into the lives those around us - a channel of God's life.
As a leader, it's my commitment to work as a Team. My goal is to equip others to take their place on God's team, the church, because we can do more together than we can by ourselves. River's Edge is a place that you can have a genuine partnership in the work of making the world a better place.
My wife Ana and I were married in 1991. She is a strong partner in ministry, leading the children's ministries and women's small groups. We have two children, Katie (12) and Jacob (9).
We regularly place a sign-up sheet in the church lobby with an open invitation for you and family to join us in our home for dinner. We look forward to getting to know you.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION ABOUT THE MESSAGES:
What is Pastor Tyler's method of Bible study?
I use a simple method of Bible study that is based on three concepts: observation (what happened), interpretation (what does that mean), and application (what can we do better).
I favor the narratives of the scriptures, and try to make the people of the Bible come alive. As well there is a strong spiritual component to my applications - striving to reach a deeper relationship with the Lord that is spiritually powerful, and naturally practical.
How does Pastor Tyler prepare his messages?
The key ingredients to my messages are his well-crafted principles and applications that I base on the biblical text. I desire to present the whole truth of the Bible, those that challenge us to face our weaknesses, and encourage us to build our strengths. As you listen to the messages, you may want to take notes using the provided outline to help listeners become students of the word. God would have us study to show ourselves approved for the work of God on our own lives.
How Pastor Tyler deliver His messages?
I type all my sermon notes on a few sheets of paper. I preach from an expanded outline and never a written manuscript. The outline keeps me on track and yet gives room for the leading the Holy Spirit to inspire. Sometimes I will read key sentences and quotes from his notes, but I mostly let my thoughts flow from the heart in order to preserve a conversational, down-to-earth tone.
What books would Pastor Tyler consider his favorites?
#1 the Bible - of course. I use the NIV and the KVJ.
